Cost Coverage & Authorization – What You Should Know
Inpatient Discharge Transport
Journeys following an inpatient hospital stay (at least one overnight stay) usually do not require prior authorization.
Requirements:
- Medical prescription for patient transport
- Billing is handled directly with the health insurance provider
Outpatient Discharge Transport
Journeys following outpatient treatment (without an inpatient stay) usually require prior authorization.
Important:
- Authorization from the health insurance provider must be obtained before the journey begins
- Without authorization, cost coverage is generally not possible
Statutory Co-Payment
For journeys covered by the health insurance provider, the statutory co-payment applies:
- 10% of the fare
- Minimum €5, maximum €10 per journey
If a co-payment is required, it must be paid directly to the driver.
